Gasoline and diesel engines look similar from the outside and work on the same four-stroke cycle, but they differ in how the fuel is ignited, and that difference shapes how each engine is built, maintained and used.
How they ignite the fuel
- A gasoline engine draws in a mixture of air and fuel, compresses it moderately, and ignites it with a spark from a spark plug. This is spark ignition.
- A diesel engine compresses only air, to a much higher pressure and temperature, and then injects the fuel, which ignites by itself. This is compression ignition, and it is why diesels have no spark plugs.
Because a diesel engine works at higher pressures, it is built more strongly, and its fuel system has to inject fuel at high pressure with great precision.
What this means in use
| Gasoline | Diesel | |
|---|---|---|
| Ignition | Spark plug | Compression |
| Typical strengths | Smooth, responsive, quiet | Strong pulling force at low engine speed, durable under load |
| Where you commonly see it | Passenger cars, many pickups and SUVs | Trucks, buses, vans, construction and farm equipment, many pickups |
| Fuel-system care | Spark plugs, ignition, air and fuel filters | Fuel filter and water separator, injector condition, clean fuel |
These are general tendencies, not rules: there are gasoline trucks and diesel passenger cars. What matters for you is the engine in your vehicle.
Why the difference matters for fuel-system products
Because the two engines burn fuel differently and have different fuel systems, a product designed for one is not interchangeable with the other. This is why ECO MIZER is offered in two lines:
- KH.4 for gasoline engines, chosen by the engine’s number of cylinders (G40, G60 and G80 for 4, 6 and 8 cylinders);
- KH.5D for diesel engines, chosen by the vehicle or equipment it serves, from light to heavy duty.
Our guides to each line explain how to choose.
Choosing correctly
Start with the fuel your engine uses. Then use the cylinder count for a gasoline engine, or the application for a diesel engine. If your vehicle has been converted, for example to run on a different fuel, or the engine has been replaced, tell us, and we will check the details with you before you order.
What to expect
ECO MIZER is designed to support more efficient combustion in both engine types. How a vehicle responds depends on the vehicle, its condition, the fuel and how it is driven, so we make no promise about an individual vehicle.
